There are many changes in the new US Racing Rules of Sailing (2005 &endash;2008). Please read and understand these rules. Racers should note that Rule 29.1 requires the RC to fly the X (White flag with blue cross) to advise racers that a yacht(s) have started prematurely.
THE RC IS NOT REQUIRED TO HAIL THE INDIVIDUAL BOAT(S ) THAT STARTED PREMATURELY
The X flag is displayed until ALL boats that were in violation are completely on the pre-start side of the starting line.
Many RC s will continue to use a courtesy hail but they are NOT required to do so.
It is responsibility of each boat to make certain they have started properly.
Crew Chief Instructions sheets are on CHOPPER and are also listed on the WLYC web site. Please review the schedule and note where you are scheduled to serve.
We have tried to maximize the number of races available to both the E and MC fleets as well as Sunday racing for the M-17 class. There are Saturday and Sunday morning races scheduled for the Butterfly class. Please note SUNDAY MC racing will start at 1:00 PM.
We are asking any sailors who have not been assigned as a Crew Chief to volunteer to help the race program by serving as a ìpinch hitterî when the need arises. We thank all the sailors in advance for their cooperation and support. If you are a Crew Chief you must run your race or find a replacement.
As in previous years, we are requiring a racing fee of $75 per skipper to defray some of the direct costs of our racing programs. All one design boats are required to pay this fee, except Juniors as defined as 21 years old or younger. The budget covers Chopper maintenance, partial trophy expense. You should have already received an invoice if you participated last year. If not notify Dick Marvil before he notifies you!!
The listed race time indicates the time the 5 minute sequence begins. It is our intention to start all races on time. Races may be postponed for only 1 hour for lack of wind or threatening weather. Any races not started within 1 hour of the scheduled time will be abandoned
ALL RACERS SHOULD NOTE THERE HAVE BEEN SOME SIGNIFICANT CHANGES/CLARIFICATION OF CURRENT RULES (2005- 2008) AND YOU SHOULD REVEIW THE NEW RULES IN ORDER TO PROMPT FAIRER, CLEANER RACING.
A special appeal to the Crew Chiefs 1) BE ON TIME!
2) Set a fair windward leg; long enough and far enough to allow for some real racing to the first mark. A good starting line is essential in order to have a fair and safe race.
In order to improve the starting line position/length and to help in course selection, Dave Bedau or Dick Marvil will be available for consultation for the MC class and Doug McNeil for the E class.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING rules FOR THE 2005 SEASON
1) A boat may use a sail that does not correspond to her hull number for only one weekend of racing. the proper numbers must then be displayed on the sail OR THE BOAT will be CONSIDERED as a DNS. and no points will be awarded for her finish position.
2) Drop races will only be 25% of total races sailed
