Classes 2011

Instructors:
Lindsey Gates, Sam Gill, Mats Lindfors & David Gates

Session:
Each session includes 4 classes that are 2 hours long. Typically, a session is twice a week for 2 weeks. The classes begin with classroom instruction for about 10-15 minutes and then are continued with on the water instruction. Students sail in JY 15s with an instructor. Optimist Prams and Butterflies may also be used for intermediate and advance classes.

Session start dates:
June 20, July 5, July 18, and August 1, and partial sessions the week of August 15th

  • There will be no classes on Monday, July 4th. The first day of the second session will begin Tuesday, July 5th.
  • The week of August 1st, classes will be only on Monday and Tuesday because of the WMYA regatta.
  • It is best if students start at the beginning of each session, but we understand there are scheduling conflicts. We can accommodate to have students start halfway through a session.
  • Students come to class twice a week for two hours a time. There is a Monday/Wednesday class or Tuesday/Thursday. Beginners are from 10:00-12:00, Intermediate 12:00-2:00, and Advance is on M/W 2:00-4:00. Accommodations of class times can be made (i.e. swim school).

Registration:
Mondays 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the sailing school room (located on the West side of the WLYC) –or- email Lindsey in advance to reserve a spot. All students must complete a swim test before they start class. This can be taken anytime during open swim at the WLYC pool. To complete the test, students must swim 5 laps and tread water for 5 minutes.

Cost:
$125 per session for beginners and intermediate; $150 for advanced (same as last year). Cash, checks (made out to WLSS), and credit card payments are accepted.

What to bring to class:
Life jacket, shoes (water shoes, Crocs), towel, sunglasses (if needed), and sunscreen

*NEW OPTI PROGRAM*
We will be offering classes that target younger students beginning at age 7. We have a fleet of 7 Optis (4 brand new).
