Water
Levels
A team lead by Past
Commodore G.E. (Ned) Dake surveyed the bottom of our basin in August
of 1999 and at that time the water was 54" below our main dock. To

Scow Dock and Lifts
Jack Rillema with the help of
Jamie Duncan and others organizes a group of volunteers to put in the
scow docks and lifts. This saves us about $5000.00 for
in and out.
This type of volunteer effort is
part of what makes the White Lake Yacht Club a great place for all.

Main Dock
Repairs
late 2002 and
2003
On August 28th 2002, with
leadership from Ned & Allan Dake and help from Craig Gates &
Jim Allan we began the repair of the wave breaks on the front of the
club dock. We worked 3 hours on Thursday evening. On Friday morning
Jon Penn and son Aaron, brought their pontoon boat with crane and
helped us finish the first wave break and begin the second one this
took about 5 hours. Saturday in 5 hours we finished the second wave
break and pulled a third out of the water and began its repair which
is complete. Dan Mojzak and Jack Rillema stopped by to lend a hand.
On Monday (Labor day) Jon Penn, Ned Dake and Allan Dake repaired the
next one.
There is one more to pull up from
the bottom on the west end. We hope to lower those done about 5 years
ago to make most of them even during this summer.
On Thursday May 8, 2003, Commodore
Karolyn Rillema and Past Commodores Ned and Allan Dake, power washed
the T dock and all the slip fingers on the outer dock. They finished
the main dock and the rest of the small slip finger piers on Friday
the 9th. About 26 total hours with two power washer 3000 psi units.
We would may put a sealer on the dock but this may have to wait until
fall. It looks like a new dock, if you see these members thank them
for the effort on behalf of all members.
King Company from Holland came on
May 15th and replaced the broken piling between slips 3 & 4. They
also removed the old docks and stringers on both sides of slip 3 and
set them on the T dock to be dismantled. Craig Gates, John Ryan, Jon
Penn, Ned Dake and Allan Dake then took all of this mess apart and
carted the worst of the wood to the dump. The rest had all of the
nails removed and is ready to be used on the new
stringers.
Jon Penn, Allan Dake & Ned
Dake will be replacing the stringers and nailing on new dock boards
during the week of May 19th This should be completed by Memorial Day
with luck. We can always use help on these projects a volunteer club
is what makes White Lake Yacht Club a great place.
Dredging
Project October 2003
On October 20th we began a
dredging project to have an area behind the outer slips that would be
7 feet deep at September 1 2003 water levels. The area would extend
back 50 feet behind all the outer slips. It would also extend 70 feet
east of the outer T to give entrance and exit from the east basin.
In order for the equipment to move
the spoils to the shore we also needed to dredge and area east of the
Youngquist dock about 30 feet wide and 5 feet deep. This will give
our small boat sailors more water to work with in west and northwest
winds. In the spring we will extend the launch ramp at least 25 feet
from its present position. This project was budgeted for $27,000.00
which included 10% overage for hill problems which of course we did
encounter. We believe we will be within that amount when the final
bill comes in.
The parking lot on the east side
was leveled and enlarged about three times and really looks nice. We
also added and area behind this parking lot to the south that may be
used someday for another project. This will need some final grading
and seeding in the spring.
Below are pictures taken by our
Secretary George Byam as the project was ongoing.
